when ripping the <finalalbion.wad> to the data folder freeroam locks up and an error says

"An unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click quit, the application will shut down immediately - unable to read beyond the end of stream"

I have followed step by step instructions but with no avail. I have re-installed many times. please help!

Well, it might be that something is using the WAD, or it is corrupted. You may need to rip a new one off your Fable TLC CDs.

No. Just make sure nothing else is using the .wad. This includes Fable Explorer and Fable itself. If it is read only it may also toss an exception.

like I said, you might need to get a new one off the disks, but you don't need to reinstall Fable. The WAD is in one of the CAB files on one of the disks, not sure witch one though.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Did you try with a new copy of the finalalbion.wad?

My Vista
What?
I doubt Vista's the problem, it would let you think you're writing to system files when you're really not, but it wouldn't bring about that kind of error.

Common FreeRoam errors, causes and solutions:

Error: "Try to select a file next time."
Cause: Stupidity.
Solution: Select a file.

Error: "Unable to read beyond the end of the stream."
Cause: Stupidity.
Solution: Select the .WAD file.

Error: "The output char buffer is too small to contain the decoded characters, encoding 'Unicode (UTF-8)' fallback 'System.Text.DecoderReplacementFallback'. Parameter name: chars."
Cause: Trying to dump from an FE-compiled .WAD.
Solution: Get a clean .WAD file off of your retail disc #2.
