Start here, consider it a modding primer.

Wiki AE documentation, some basic info. Out of date though. Some additional info can be found in the AE thread.
Wiki FE documentation, general usage instructions. Again, a bit out of date. Some of the updated info can be found in the FE thread itself.

The author of Albion Explorer (BayStone) has developed a new tool, ChocolateBox. It doesn't have a Wiki page, but most everything you need to know can be found in the CBox thread. BayStone would probably appreciate you tossing AE and using ChocolateBox instead since the AE project has been abandoned for a good while now.
