Ok so this is some armor I'm working on... It's Skyrim's daedric armor but for some reason in 3ds max, the mesh is black. It works in game but it's inside out! Do I have to flip the normals or something?

Inside out means flipping the normals in most cases. In other cases it means you did a spectacularly amazingly horrible job rigging it. Still, try flipping the normals and see what happens.

If you're interested, toss up an FMP containing at least the mesh or just upload the model and I can take a look.

Lol, I did a horrible job at rigging it? Sad
Ok I'll flip it and upload it tomorrow. I need some sleep. It's almost 3am here.

Nah, didn't mean that at all. While out is technically possible, there's no way to rig it like that on accident. The normals will sort it all out.

The problem is that my meshes are black. I use nifskope to load skyrim meshes and export them as .obj, then in blender I fit it onto the hero's head and delete the hero and export as .obj, then I import into 3ds and the mesh is black. How do I prevent this?
-
Okay, the problem is that blender messes up the mesh. I'm not very familiar with 3ds so I don't really know how to move the model to fit on his head. I guess I could fool around with it and figure it out, but I really don't feel like it right now.
-
Okay, I moved it to fit the hero and everything was fine and I linked it and skinweighted it and got this error:
BTW this is the iron helmet, not daedric armor.
Download below vv

When you get any kind of HRESULT error when parsing the model there's a problem with the structure of it. I'll take a look.

Edit: Well I'm stumped. o.O Not sure how you pulled that one off but it's certainly borked. Structure looks fine, and I don't see any frame names that would break it (like "sword"), so I don't know what's throwing it off.

Having a full set of this armor to go along with your sword would be epic. I really hope you figure this one out Smile

The daedric armor is broken. It's like inside out. If it wasn't inside out, shirt and trousers for it would be released already. And do you think that the little skirt part of it should be the trousers or part of the shirt?

I figured I would take your comment where it belongs for once Razz lol

But as for if you can get this fixed and working I think the skirt part would be part of the trousers, wouldn't it? I could be wrong with the technical use of it but either way if people are going to use it they will use both at once anyways.

Thanks lol and I deleted the actual trousers from beneath the skirt, so everyone in albion can get a nice upskirt. And the shirt and trousers are 1 thing in Skyrim.

lol I could do without the upskirt Razz but yea that's why it's hard to tell which part the skirt should be attached to.

I think I'll just do the skirt as part of the shirt

Does anyone know why the mesh is invisible?!?

I'm really not sure. I've been following this thread, and if I had to guess I would say it's offset into his back or something. Try scaling it up a little?

It's definitely a hole in the mesh. Or at least in Fable. Anywhere I load the model, it looks fine, but when I import it into FE, well take a look:

I packed the mesh and texture in an fmp vv

Are all pieces of the mesh at origin? (positioned at 0,0,0, rotated at 0,0,0, scaled at 100%, 100%, 100%)

What? No, I moved it a bit I think. But it doesn't matter, when I export it from blender without editing the mesh at all and import into FE, it has the holes in it. All other meshes are fine. It's either a hole in the mesh or its inside-out. Flipping normals didn't work so does that mean its not inside-out?

If it's origin is not at (0, 0, 0) it might move off into the distance, never to be seen again. Make sure it's not scaled or moved or anything, i.e. apply the visual transformations.

But doesn't it need to be moved and scaled to fit the hero?

That's what i thought too. But i noticed that it tends to fuck up ingame, so i tend to have to move it in different directions in order for it to fit the hero properly.

Well screw this shit, I give up. Or at least on this armor for now. The model is broken. End of story. No other mesh messes up like this. Only Skyrim armors. Maybe I'll find a way, but for now, I will not be working on this.
