Its not really all that tempremental.

As long as the DXT is set to 1, the alpha channel 0 and the texture size exactly 512x512, then there shouldn't be an issue...

Are you getting an 'Unhandled Exception' error whilst importing a texture? Or is the game just crashing when you enter the game or try to retrieve/equip the weapon?

The latter is usually related to the models geometry or the textures import type...
