I downloaded and tested the big, it worked fine and the game started in less than 2 minutes. Have you gotten any other bigs to work?
If you have Vista or 7 it could be that you need to take ownership of the textures.big file. I have read that it is something like that sometimes with those O/S's, I'm not qualified to answer questions about them though.
I uploaded the bmps so you can apply them manually if you want to go that route.
