I'm new to this site so sorry if this is posted in the wrong area. i just downloaded fable explorer from this link: http://fabletlcmod.com/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=1330& ;amp ;amp ;amp ;start=0&

I downloaded a retexture from this link: http://fabletlcmod.com/forum/index.php?t=msg&goto=61625& amp; amp; amp; amp;&srch=solus#msg_61625

I am new at modding and crap I have no idea what im doing and how to add retextures. so far the most ive figured out is adding mod packages. Can anybody help?

Welcome to the site.
Read the stickies, especially the one Sativarg linked to.
Browse the tutorials section before asking how to do something, many things are covered there:

This one gives detailed info, with screenshots, on how to apply the Darkened "Solus Greatsword.big" file.

Also, if you can't find what you're looking for in the stickies or tutorials section, there's a search function and a wiki, accessible via the upper right area of the page on all areas of the forum proper.

Read the site rules, as well as individual thread rules, stickies and announcements, and use search, or you will have smartassy or exasperated ownage rained down upon you by the site's crack team of mods and admins. Also, you can find all you need to get started on modding here.

It dosn't work. I do exactly as that tutorial says and it fable explorer saves it. then when i go back in game it reverts back to normal. and when i go back to find the item in fe it reverted to original as well. This makes no sense.

First off, don't double post. There's an edit button for a reason. Second, I believe a careful reading of this thread will tell you all you need to know about fixing that issue.
