Here's a test render of the Wolf Hood Model. Feel free to critique.

@ Darkenend Souls peoples: anything in particular you'd like to say on it?

@ The community in general: anything you'd like to see on a wolf head hat?

it looks a bit too clean, like it was made with foam and not cut off a wolf, make the hero look like a furry Razz

close though

Yeah, I've been thinking about that - I think I slide some edges out of the mesh that can be textured to look like excess fur (the same way the parts of the balverines are done.

Okay - I'll go look at some reference photos (likely should have done that earlier on...)

Well, after looking at some reference photos it looks like the mussel is to think and as Marco pointed out the nose is to round or too flat depending on which way you want to phrase it. Also looks like the ears should be twisted to face more out instead of forward.

Yeah I've been contemplating how best to do that without using a mini-rig. The rig method would look the nicest but would also take the most effort and vertex transforms will require more polys... which I'm trying to avoid.

I couldn't tell you to be honest. I just figure that the game probably won't take to high poly models too kindly. For all I know your model could be perfectly acceptable.

Polys tend to make most games cry and the majority of stuff that I do for not fable is done for offline rendering which means characters with 20000+ polys. Which would make fable go blamo on most computers... the hero is like 4000.

That looks awesome! However, I think it's a bit too perky Razz Try elongating the fangs a bit, though a good texture should make it look nice and evil Wink

Yeah I've done a bunch on it, I've got a version now that has random polys sticking out that could be textured like the stick out fur on the balverines... not entirely satisfied with it though. I'm going to see what I can do with Maya fur - see if I can't create some sort of reasonably low poly model with real fur on it... It might work...

And yeah it does look very perky.

Hmm... This is a stupid idea, but why not go all Albion on the idea and make a Balverine hood? It would probably score some good scariness points too now that I think about it.

It is true that such a thing would be more thematically sensible... I'll perhaps do another one that is more balverine-y. Though, if were going to do that. It would be easier to just grab the balverine model slice off it's head and scale and cut it to fit the hero's head. Something that anyone who has a 3d program can do (since it requires no actual modeling skill).

In general I'm doing this not out of the generosity of my heart or for the neatness of it for fable, but for the practice at 3d work. I need more character modeling practice.

square off the nose a little, and I disagree with blood spots, the hero would wash it off, if there are blood spots, ima retexture it.

edit: looks pretty good though

How can you say make it more wolvish and then say to add horns. The two don't go together unless you've been looking at some very strange wolves.

I'm going to have to agree horns would seem somewhat out of place.

Blue, that is scariest wolf picture I have ever seen (the second one). *Shivers*

The floppy ears kinda bug me... they make it seem so cute and cuddly...

Suggestions?

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

While that might look neat we can't do dynamic meshes so it wouldn't bounce around, which would, in the end, make it look really strange, I suspect.

Further modeling a matching lower jaw would be a real pain in the a** at this point in time.

Thanks Smile

Going to thicken up the ears and do some more debulbousing of the head.

Debulbousing, damn that's a sweet soundin' word.

The back of the hood bores me. Would it be stupid/silly to build some spine into the back of the hood?
