I was wondering if there was a max count on weapons, armor, anything else for that matter? And if not a max number, what's "pushing it"?

Fable itself might not have a maximum except for the limitations of the end-user's machine, but FableExplorer starts getting its panties in a twist when handling meshes that exceed 65535 vertices.

65535? As in FFFF hex? Is that just an extremely coincidental arbitrary number, or is there something to that? I never dealt with computer games. I usually stay in PS1 and PS2 games.

Coincidentally Oldboy, I am going to use chains but I saw the bordello mesh so I'll probably do that, my problem is going to be Spawn's cape. I'm debating the issue and which method to use to overcome the sheer high poly count that animating it significantly would require should I choose to go that route. (Such as using the cape to create a shell when [block] is hit or having the third combo attack unarmed spear with the cape.) It depends on how much time I'm willing to devote to it and how annoyed I get in testing.

I'm not sure of the exact number, but I've seen 50k vert meshes work (that's still way too high) and I've seen 80k vert meshes make FableExplorer explode. I'm only assuming the magic number is 65k, my computer isn't strong enough for me to thoroughly test this.

Oh, and I would highly recommend taking a look at the Hero mesh and a full suit of armor (boots, trousers, shirt, gloves, helmet) in 3DS or whatever you're using to see how it's put together, but also to see our limitations. There are a lot of things we'd like to do, and then there are the things we can do, which is sadly much less than what we'd like.

Edit: I don't think I ever clarified what would be "pushing it". Keep it under 20k verts. Better if it were under 10k verts. We're not making CGI movies here.

Yeah I'm exporting the whole hero base and and selected other meshes. I'll first start by combining meshes and removing overlap before I do anything from scratch. One it's quicker. Two I'm lazy.

As for programs, I got:
Maya 2011
K 3D 0.6.7.0
MetaSequoia
Blender 2.49b
3Ds Max 5
MakeHuman

I would rather try out this new version of Maya but I want to model now not play with the new maya so I'm in blender or Autodesk most of the time. Maya 2011 has a 60 day trial version out if you're wanting to check it out. It does look awesome.

Another related question: Do all the textures have to be 512x512 or 128x128 or can I make one say Xp x Xp, and get it to work? I tried just dectupling the size of the tattoos but they ended up just not rendering or being invisible. Any thoughts?

I don't know if there are any set maximums but for all practical purposes, I'd strongly recommend not using anything above 1024x1024.

Got ya. Just a ponderance of mine. 1024p I might be able to deal with, it's just that the res on the face tattoos bothers me. You can make out specific pixels quite readily in close up. I'm a little OCD about certain things. That being one of them.

That will happen with the custom tattoos. Building new tattoos in-game provides better results. Sean_s wrote some material on it.
