Hello,
I am new to modding Fable: The Lost Chapters and cannot figure out how to mod. I have the online instructions, but to no prevail. I have installed Fable Explorer. When I click 'file' and then 'open' none of the mods I have downloaded appear. Why is this?
Also whenever I do manage to open a mod (which is not often) my Fable Explorer instantly says 'not responding'.
Can anyone, in great detail or as if you were talking to a 5 year old, explain to me how to mod Fable: The Lost Chapters and please provide a link to an easy mod that I can try after your input.

Browsing the tutorials section is generally helpful. There's even a nice sticky that can help teach you to mod and probably solve your problem to boot.

As for the not responding bit, try giving it a couple of minutes to load. Make a sandwich or some such thing.

And on the third hand...

Tutorials won't get you past user errors, unfortunately. And waiting times shouldn't be an issue until recompiling when saving and running Fable.

Ok, I will try and explain better.
When I open FE, and then click 'open', then click 'load fable mod package', it opens a browser. However none of the fmp. files that I download appear there. Instead at the bottom right hand corner above 'open' it says .big files.

Hang on I have uninstalled FE and reinstalled it and it now says fmp. files.
I now have loaded a fmp. file and should it show up on the left hand side of FE because it is not.

Where you will find the files depends on what the .fmp actually does. If it loaded, just try going to "Save Mods and Run Fable" under the "Actions" dropdown menu and checking to see if the mod worked.

Did you make backups? No. I'd say get the original files off the retail game discs but, and I don't say this to be mean but instead to be more helpful, it would probably be easier to uninstall, delete Fable directory, and reinstall Fable.

Yes. You should always make backups of your game files before you edit them. Just copy them and paste them somewhere safe.

And on the third hand...

Assuming you have save files your progress should be safe.

Unfortunately if you did not create a backup of the files you changed by loading the .fmp then your only option is to replace them by either copying them from the original discs or uninstalling the game entirely and then reinstalling it.

This is not like a game that officially supports mods, there is no special folder that the mods are saved to and then loaded from. Any adjustments you make are made to the original files. The moral of the story being that you should ALWAYS make a backup before attempting anything.

Hahaha ok yeah I will have to remember that moral. Anyways I just uninstalled it and made sure to keep my saved files. So heres hoping its still there.

Assuming you don't do anything to them the saves should be safe. It's been a while but most games ask if you want to delete saves when you're uninstalling - making it relatively easy to make sure nothing bad happens.

Yes it did ask me if I wish to keep my saved games files when I uninstalled. But never fear, dont worry (I know you were all concerned ;p) for my Fable saved gamed files...........are Working!!!!!!!! and my progress is saved. Thanks guys for all your help, I will definitely be modding in the future (but first I will make a back up file).
