Hello, long time reader, first time poster. I am trying to make a set of Hal's Armor for TLC. Made helm out of a composite of Platinium Helmet, Assassin Shirt, and Chainmail Helmet. Problem is when I try to import it in FE I get the error message "HRESULT=80004005." I don't know what causes it or how to fix it, help very much appreciated! Made model with 3Dmax, exported as X-File, have no clue what's wrong.

Found half of problem, I wasn't using Panda Exporter. No longer get same error. Now it says the data is protected and the file may be corrupted.

I am also including pic of helm. Hope to get full suit up and running sometime. If I do, then will post in mod forum.

Make sure you use ASCII format, not binary.

It is set to text not binary, and I can open it in notebook and it is not in binary.

I can't tell if there is a problem with the subframe structure since I am making a composite model. Could this even be an issue or not?

I'm pretty good with these things. If you let us see the model, we may be able to help out.

Ok, here are the saves I have for the helmet. I have tried exporting with panda and then reimporting back to 3ds and also get an error for that.

I've noticed that as well. I assume it is because the Xporter import doesn't support Andy Tather's interpretation of the DirectX format. Which is understandable, if you look at it, it's insane. I'll take a look and see what I can come up with.

Edit: Scratch that, this won't work. You must have a newer version of Max as I cannot open the file. I can work with the DirectX export though, if you can put that together for me.

Tried everything. This is my file, has no skin, all needed bones and everything is parented to one scene. Have fun and tell me if you can get it to work.

I see what's up now. You're making an animated mesh, but the mesh has no skin weighting and subframe hierarchy is off.

Provided is a fixed up mesh for you to use. You'll still have to load it up in 3DS and do the skinweighting properly, as all I did was weight everything to the head. When you go to import in FE, import over an animated mesh, not a static one. And it seems to work better when you import over a similar mesh, in this case a helmet.

Took a while to figure out the envelopes, but it works now. Just now starting to get everything in FE. Thanks alot.

Edit: Ok, imports into FE ok(no mesh is shown). Tested it with the chainmail helmet CAppearanceModifierDef. Fable crashed as soon as I tried to put on the chainmail helmet.

I only changed the appearance model in the cdef, nothing else. Using custom textures, all of which are working fine (I can do that much). Changed the materials for the mesh to the new textures and max texture for each material to 1.

I hate being a pain, but trying real hard to do this on my own. Can anyone tell me what could be wrong?
